I recently had a P5512-E camera go bad and I replaced with a 5514-E (new for fall 2015). The new firmware seems to only allow Digest Authentication for PTZ controls. My camera management/DVR software only supports Basic Authentication.

Is there a way on the new Axis cameras/firmware to allow or switch back to Basic Authentication?

Beginning with firmware version 5.70 Axis products per default, only accept digest passwords as authentication. You will have to set up the camera to accept basic passwords via the cameras web GUI. I'm unsure if this is also possible using the VAPIX API.

with regards to changing the camera to accept basic passwords, would you be able to point me in the direction of where this is in the camera menus as I can't seem to find it and I am having the same issue.

Setup > System Options > Security > Users

Under the HTTP/RTSP Password Settings change Allow password type: to Unencrypted only
