I've had trouble getting a well equiped Linux CIFS share to work with Axis Companion cameras. Basically it's like the performance is too slow.
I have this same issue on a plain-jane windows systems, but if I install PrimoCache the problem goes away and I can put 16 cameras on no problem.
Any clue on how to configure a linux cifs/samba box to perform fast enough for companion cameras?

C1. Basically, it's like the performance is too slow.
A1. Do you mean that it works with fewer cameras?
Technically speaking, If there is sufficient bandwidth and the write throughput to disks of the NAS is able to cater to the load provided by the recording streams of the 16 cameras. It should work.
