Looking at a new DVR or NVR solution, have 16 existing analog cameras. Am I better off going for an encoder and a 32 channel IP NVR, or a 32 channel hybrid NVR? Are there pros & cons to either choice?

A. 32 channel IP NVR
Pro - Cheaper option (usually)
- Higher retention (depending on built harddisk storage)

B. Axis encoder.
- Feature rich. Depending on whether you need each feature. The feature are usually better tested and will work most of the time. If they don't Axis support is usally more responsive to bug. Other NVR brand's feature is usually AS-IS especially the cheaper ones. Well this is the usual trade off between, price, support and features.

- Less false alarms if you know how to configure its Axis VMD appropriately and effectively. This will increase the retention period for the edge (SDcard) recording.

- Need NAS if you want to have longer retention rate. I will buy 1 ACS 5 core licence if I am using M7016.

- If want more processing power, buy one Axis M7011 for each analog camera.

- If you want the cheaper option and can do lesser processing power, you can use M7016.
