I read on the AXIS website at the following address:
that improper use of VAPIX could cause damage to the camera. (see notes on VAPIX library)

You can damage your product if you use VAPIX incorrectly. For example, frequently overriding the settings (changing parameter values) will cause the premature aging of the flash file system. Also, it is possible to use the mechanism, the PTZ mechanism in some models, and the filter can be worn out if used too frequently.

Could you please develop and complete these notes which suggest that using VAPIX normally to send commands to the camera such as extracting a stream of images (not a video stream) would damage the camera, especially the reliability the flash memory of the camera?

If so, why have AXIS created such VAPIX commands?

Specifically, does the following VAPIX command sent every second to the Q3517-LVE camera can cause a problem to it?
http: // username: password@myserver/axis-cgi/jpg/image.cgi resolution 1920x1080 = & compression = 25?.
This command in a loop of 1 second allows to receive an image (and not a video) in jpg format with a resolution of 1920X1080 with a compression ratio of 25.

Thank on advance for your reply

Hello Claude,

VAPIX is our set of APIs used to control our devices over a webUI or third party Video Management Software for easy audio/video pull and management.
VAPIX is a set of very flexible APIs and with that comes huge potentials that aim to allow our customer to develop their own unique solutions.
We mention some of the risks primarily based on use of the mechanical parts or the way a developer decides to store data.
Requesting an image using image.cgi won't cause any damage to the camera and can be safely used.
